Potomac Highlands ROAR

With 2 National Forests and 11 state parks, the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia is your destination for outdoor recreation (https://wvtourism.com/explore/by-region/potomac-highlands/). ROAR (Regional Outdoor Adventure Recreation) is your key to discovering all of the great adventures that the region has to offer. ROAR was officially launched on August 21st, 2018 with the Highlands Hiking Challenge as its first initiative.

The Highlands Hiking Challenge

The Potomac Highlands are filled with some of Appalachia’s best hiking trails. Complete the challenge by taking a hike in each of our 8 designated hiking regions. Once completed, show a picture or journal entry from each trail at one of our region’s visitor centers to receive a hiking patch. Proof can also be submitted by email to the Appalachian Forest Heritage Area at info@appalachianforest.us or by mail at Appalachian Forest Heritage Area, PO Box 1206, Elkins, WV 26241.
